It permits eligible nationals to travel to New Zealand for tourist, business, or transit without having to produce visa documentation at an embassy. It is now a requirement for visa-exempt nationals and all cruise ship passengers. When you reach at the New Zealand border, you must apply for an entry permit, even if you already have a visa or NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority). Immigration officers may request proof of your application to enter New Zealand. This process is usually quick, but immigration officials may ask you some additional questions before granting you permission to enter New Zealand. You must answer these questions honestly. You may be required to show your ticket to leave New Zealand or proof of how you will be assisted during your stay here.

You must also pay a processing fee known as the International Visitor Tourism and Conservation Fee (IVL) to receive an approved New Zealand eTA via email. Those wishing to travel to New Zealand for longer stays or to work or study will require a visa and should contact the nearest New Zealand embassy or consulate for further information. Applicants must complete the New Zealand eTA application form with personal and passport information. You will also need to answer a few questions about criminal records and whether the applicant is seeking medical treatment in New Zealand.
